The people in Malaysia who stand for a change of the autocratic and cleptocratic regime towards a democratic Malaysia of social justice and solidarity have secured victory. An overwhelming majority voted for the coalition Pakatan Harapan (Alliance of Hope) lead by our sister party, the Democratic Action Party (DAP).
Persecution of the opposition, buying of votes, gerrymandering and other attempts of the regime to manipulate the wish of the people for a change, were rebuffed once and for all at these elections.
After 61 years of independence now the way is free for a change towards democracy, social justice and an inclusive society of solidarity.
This is a good day for the people in Malaysia and a strong signal for the region and beyond.
