In the 21st century Progressives stand for social justice and equality to make the world a better world where wealth is equally distributed. However the reality is that over 80 per cent of the world’s population have no social security and no income in the event of a personal or economic crisis. Over half of the world’s population live in, or are at risk from, grinding poverty; millions of children die each year from preventable causes; millions of older people are threatened by poverty, destitution and disease. When a hitherto unknown greengrocer set himself on fire in a public thoroughfare in the Tunisian town of Sidi Bouzid on December the 17th 2010, in a desperate protest against his social situation and the arbitrariness of state power, his action set in motion a wave of protests and revolutions throughout the entire Arab Region.
