We are profoundly appalled by the terrorist attack in Barcelona. Our hearts and thoughts are with our Spanish friends and comrades at this difficult time, and we mourn for the many innocent victims.

The inhuman terrorist attack in Barcelona illustrates the degree of brutality and cruelty being directed by terrorists against the system of liberal values. We shall join our friends and partners in Spain and throughout the world to defend our values of freedom, justice and solidarity, and we shall never give way to terrorists. Our friendship, solidarity and mutual engagement in support of our values are stronger than violence of any kind.
