After a long illness, Ousmane Tanor Dieng, General Secretary of the Socialist Party of Senegal, deceased in France on 15 July. Tanor Dieng has led the Socialist Party from 1996 with great commitment to solidarity, freedom and justice in society.

His work to contribute to the understanding between peoples and as a member of the international family of progressive and socialist parties will remain unforgotten. He was an excellent campaigner for progressive politics and our values in the 21st century.

The Progressive Alliance mourns the loss of Ousmane Tanor Dieng, an outstanding personality who has repeatedly given important impetus to our party family, including his keynote speech at the founding of the Progressive Alliance in Leipzig in May 2013.

This loss leaves a large human and political gap in the community of our progressive party family. His commitment and responsible work will always be an example.
