Amidst the rising tide of authoritarianism and the erosion of democratic institutions across Asia, the Progressive Alliance, in cooperation with the Asia-Pacific Network for Social Democracy (SocDem Asia-Pacific), convened in Manila on July 30-31, 2024. The conference aimed to assess the regional balance of forces, identify strategies for countering right-wing populism, and chart a path for progressive movements over the next five years. Delegates included representatives from sister parties in Africa, Latin America, and Europe, who enriched the discussions by sharing strategies and experiences in addressing global democratic backsliding and socio-political polarization.
