The Progressive Alliance stands in solidarity with the Syrian people as they open a new chapter of hope following the fall of the Assad regime. We celebrate the Syrian people’s agency in ending a brutal dictatorship and support their aspirations for justice, dignity, and democracy. We back efforts by all groups in Syrian society, alongside the international community, to rebuild a future rooted in freedom and self-determination.
We call on all Syrian forces, civil society organizations, and communities to prioritize national unity and cohesion. A peaceful transition must safeguard state institutions, prevent retribution, and lay the groundwork for an inclusive political process. This process must ensure representation and participation of all ethnic and religious groups to create a state that serves every Syrian. This process should be able to treat women as equal partners and must result to the protection of women’s rights in Syrian society. We support the formation of an inclusive body to draft a new Constitution and prepare for free and fair elections.
We reaffirm the rights, dignity, and safety of displaced persons and refugees and urge the continuation of humanitarian efforts to deliver essential services. Safeguarding national unity and building a just, pluralistic state that protects all communities and minorities will foster trust and stability during this critical period. Multilateral cooperation, particularly through the United Nations, will be vital in ensuring an inclusive and transformative transition.
The Progressive Alliance strongly reaffirms its support for Syria’s independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity. We warn against destabilizing actions by foreign actors, particularly incursions by Israel that violate the 1974 Accords and that of Turkey on the Northeast part of Syria attacking the Kurds, undermining Syria’s stability and territorial unity. Respect for international law and the Syrian people’s right to determine their future is essential to achieving long-term peace and stability.
Finally, we emphasize the central role of transitional justice in addressing past grievances, ensuring accountability, and fostering national reconciliation. Justice and truth must guide the way forward to heal the wounds of war, strengthen democratic foundations, and build a future of shared peace and stability.
