Conference Highlights: Latin America at a Crossroads & For Democracy and Multilateralism
On the final day of the Buenos Aires conference, delegates of the Progressive Alliance of the Americas gathered for two major panels: “Latin America at a Crossroads” and “For Democracy and Multilateralism: Confronting Global Right-Wing Threats.”
The first panel examined the political landscape in Latin America, including the impact of U.S. policy, the rise of far-right movements, and the situation in Argentina under President Milei and his regional allies. Participants discussed strategies for progressives to counter polarization, defend democratic institutions, and strengthen social cohesion.
The second panel focused on transnational far-right networks and how progressives can respond through cooperation and people-centered, forward-looking alternatives. Speakers from Argentina, Venezuela, Hungary, Italy, Austria, India, and Mexico shared experiences from their national contexts, emphasizing the urgency of collective action to renew democracy and multilateralism.
The discussions closed with a common message: the defense of democracy and human dignity requires cooperation grounded in solidarity, equality, and shared responsibility among progressive forces worldwide.
