Report 2025

Cooperation and dialogue remain essential to addressing the challenges of our time. In 2025, multilateral institutions and international cooperation continued to operate in a strained and unsettled global environment. Ongoing conflicts, repression, and economic pressures affected regions across the world, while shifts in alliances and the growing influence of anti-democratic forces underscored the need for clear political purpose and sustained collective action.

The direction for our response was set at the 2024 Convention. As progressives, socialists, and social democrats, we reaffirmed that our shared commitments to freedom, social justice, solidarity, gender equality, and internationalism must be reflected not only in principles, but in coordinated political work. In 2025, the Progressive Alliance focused on consolidating this agenda, strengthening platforms for exchange, and advancing common positions in support of human rights and democratic freedoms.

Throughout the year, member-driven initiatives shaped the Alliance’s work. Network exchanges in India and Argentina supported dialogue across regions and strengthened cooperation on global justice, democracy, and internationalism. Political discussions and positioning on peace and security, the backlash against women’s rights, and the climate emergency were advanced through engagements convened in Iraq, Switzerland, and Brazil, guided by the leadership and priorities of our member parties.

The Alliance’s internal democracy and transparency were reinforced through the active functioning of its organs. Regional coordinators, the Finance Committee, the Board, and the Presidium each played their role in ensuring political coordination, sound governance, and accountability across the network.

The challenges facing our movement remain significant, both within national contexts and at the international level. In 2025, the Progressive Alliance sustained its work grounded in the initiatives of its members. The Alliance strengthened cooperation across regions, aligned political positions, and carried forward its shared commitment to collective action. This steady, membership-driven approach remains the foundation of our work and the basis for advancing progressive change in the years ahead.
