Objective:

Democracies around the world are under pressure. The economic and socio-political performance of democracy has been challenged by right-wing populist movements and the mismanagement of several global crises. The future of social democracy depends in large part on how we can build together resilient, resistant and effective democracies, capable of facing the challenges of the future with our values?

The Progressive Alliance, in collaboration with the Foundation for European Progressive Studies (FEPS) and in cooperation with the Friedrich-Ebert-Foundation (FES), will address this question by organising a series of debates at regional level (Africa, Asia, Latin America, and Europe) with progressive personalities from various backgrounds, before presenting their results in November 2021 at the Global Progressive Forum conference.

Today we wish to invite you to participate in the next webinar “Resilent Democracies“, organized by SocDem Asia taking part next Wednesday, 30 June 2021.

We will debate the following questions:

  1.  What are the concrete pathways for democracy to become more resilient in your region so as to contribute to its long-term stability?
  2. What is the impact of extra-regional actors on the pursuit of this objective?
  3. How and which international actions, actors and alliances can support strengthening a model of resilient democracy in your region?Remarks from the Young Academic Network of the Foundation for European Progressive Studies
