The Socialist Party of Chile and the Party for Democracy Chile will host over 80 political parties and organizations from across the globe for the Progressive Alliance Global Convention. Drawing on the tradition and legacy of resistance to authoritarian regimes and international solidarity exemplified by Chile’s progressive parties, the Progressive Alliance chose to meet in Chile to engage in strategic debates with political leaders on key issues such as democracy, economic justice, and peace and security.
Notable guests include Stefan Löfven, President of the Party of European Socialists and former Prime Minister of Sweden, Dante Delgado, Leader and Senator from Mexico, Rahul Gandhi, Leader of the Opposition in India, Mohammed Ishtayeh, former Prime Minister and Leader of Fatah in Palestine, Martin Ziguélé, Leader and former Prime Minister of the Central African Republic, Bohdan Ferens, Leader of the Social Democratic Platform in Ukraine, Esteban Paulón, Regional Coordinator of the Progressive Alliance of the Americas from Argentina, and parliamentarians from Africa, Asia-Pacific, Europe, the Middle East, and Latin America.
The hosts of the international convention are Senator Paulina Vodanovic, Minister of Interior Carolina Tohá, and Minister Secretary General of the Presidency Álvaro Elizalde.
