Building Power and Defending Progress Together
Protections against gender-based violence are being weakened and reproductive rights face renewed assault, while women in politics are targeted by disinformation and online violence. A seat in parliament changes lives only when it comes with protected rights, resources and real power to decide.
The annual Gender Equality Conference of the Progressive Alliance meets in Bangkok to confront these attacks together. Co-hosted with the People’s Party of Thailand at the Parliament of Thailand, it brings together ministers, parliamentarians, party leaders and women’s rights advocates from member parties and partner organisations in every region. Its work is guided by the Alliance’s Gender Equality Action Plan and the shared commitment to close all gender gaps by 2030.
The programme moves from representation to authority. Women party leaders and ministers share how they hold power and use it. Two parallel forums exchange policy practice: one asks what progress looks like beyond women’s representation, the other confronts the rollback of gender rights, disinformation and violence. Further sessions take up feminist foreign and development policy, a joint defence of gender and LGBTIQ+ rights, solidarity with women living under conflict and authoritarian rule, and the Women, Peace and Security agenda.
On 18 November, the pre-conference brings together the Gender Equality Working Group, a Women, Peace and Security caucus and a workshop on countering gendered disinformation, followed by a welcome reception and a fireside chat on power and progress
