Progressive Alliance Board Meeting in Bangkok

Event Date:

20Nov2026

The Board of the Progressive Alliance sets the political guidelines of the Alliance and takes decisions, including on organisational matters. Leaders of member parties with no representative on the Board are invited to take part without voting rights. The meeting is closed-door.

The meeting is held in Bangkok, where a progressive party now in opposition carries the votes of millions. It opens with Asia. Natthaphong Ruengpanyawut, Leader of the People’s Party of Thailand, welcomes participants and speaks on the political situation in Thailand. Lian Hmung Sakhong, Union Minister of Federal Union Affairs in Myanmar’s National Unity Government, speaks on life under military dictatorship. Rupa Basnet of the University of Aberdeen looks at the Himalayan tsunami in Nepal, where the climate crisis is already reshaping mountain communities.

The second half of the morning turns to the Alliance itself: the Global Coordinator’s Report, the Finance Report, an open Board discussion, resolutions, membership applications and the first steps toward the 2027 General Assembly. It follows two days of the Gender Equality Conference, whose statement, Building Power and Defending Progress Together, comes to the Board with a request for its support.

The meeting is co-chaired by Chaiwat Sathawornwichit, Board Member of the Progressive Alliance (People’s Party, Thailand), and Machris Cabreros, Global Coordinator of the Progressive Alliance.
